The Town of Slave Lake operates an aerated wastewater treatment system that includes a drying cell that has been used for biosolids retention and dewatering. Construction work was completed in 2018 to excavate, load, and haul the dried material to the landfill for disposal to enable reuse of the area. The estimated in-place volume of the biosolids drying cell is 20,000 metres cubed. Work included:
- Provisions for equipment and truck access to the drying cell
- Excavation and loading of material
- Hauling and disposal of the dried biosolids to Class II landfill operated by the Lesser Slave River Regional Waste Management Commission, located approximately 18 km west of the site.
